My body my norms

Exhibition at Teaterhörnet in Kalmar

Why are women striving for the perfect body and what does perfect mean to different people, if it exists at all?

Beauty standards

Beauty standards exist because we support them. Without even knowing or realizing it we are all part of the ’making’ where female norms are being created. ’My body my norms’ is a critical feminist zine about beauty standards and female body norms. The zine takes a critical feminist perspective, addressing questions such as: Why are women striving for the perfect body and what does perfect mean to different people, if it exists at all? How can we measure femininity and who has the power to judge it?

There is no such a thing we call ideal body but there has been and there will always be a leading beauty standard that sweeps through society. Through this project, I am exploring who shifts these beauty standards, and how society supports them.

social Sustainability

While we, as individuals, hold the power to shape and shift beauty standards, external factors such as media, social media, and culture play influential roles. In today's information-rich era, the constant flow of data through television, advertisements, and social media platforms significantly shape our lives, influencing our perceptions and thought processes.

The zine features hand-drawn illustrations of female body parts addressing: norms surrounding one’s body are personal and unique. To build a sustainable society, addressing and transforming the existing female body norms is essential for meaningful change.

The project was exhibited in Kalmar at Teaterhörnet.
