hormonal contraception

Contraception stories is a collaborative booklet offering an insight into the complex world of hormonal contraception form the history of the birth control pills through the liberation of women to the present-day experiences with these products.

My research is grounded on how the power relations surrounding hormonal contraception in Western societies, is affecting different individual’s life. What role does (bio)politics play in hormonal contraception? How does (bio)politics affect society in the context of hormonal birth control? I am approaching this topic from a design perspective in which I explore the connections between visual communication and contraception as well what role design plays or can play in this context.

collaboration and design

The foundation of this project is a three-step collaborative process: a workshop, interviews, and a call for photo sharing. In total, around 30 individuals aged 20-30 participated in this process. Text from the interviews, images shared in response to the photo invitation, and handwritten text created during the workshop became the core for the visual language. The booklet plays with contrast opposing personal thoughts and historical findings across its spreads. Information gathered from my research have been transformed into infographics.
